PacketDrivers Daylight Saving Time Notification

All PacketDrivers Clients,

As you may have heard Daylight Savings Time (DST) has been moved up by 3 weeks beginning in 2007.  The DST change takes place this Sunday March 9th.  We have been double checking the patches from last year.  It is always possible that the update did not apply to a machine correctly and will need to be addressed after the change on Sunday. The most likely place that a patch will be needed, will be on non computers that you may have purchased over the past year, such as PDA cell phones. Please submit a Help Desk request if your machine did not change to the correct time on Sunday and we can reapply the patch if necessary.

This webpage has the latest information along with a tool that confirms if your workstation is configured correctly for the new DST rules:

The primary problem with the DST change is to appointments scheduled between the new Daylight Saving Time and the old Daylight Saving Time.

PacketDrivers has run (or will run) a calendar update tool that updates reoccurring meeting appointments to the correct times.

Mobile Device Updates

Windows Mobile Devices

For users that connect to their mobile device to their PC with ActiveSync:

After the DST change on Sunday, connect your Windows Mobile device to your PC, then download and run the Daylight Saving Time 2007 Update Tool for Windows Mobile which can be found here.

For users that only use their Smartphone over wireless:
1.     Go to Start > Settings > Clock & Alarms > Date and Time.
2.     Change the current time zone to any time zone other than the one that is currently selected.
3.     Click Done.
4.     Change the current time zone to the one you want to use.
5.     Click Done.

Blackberry Users

    1. It is recommended that you back up your BlackBerry using the Backup and Restore function in Desktop Manager. Learn more about backing up your device
    2. Close the BlackBerry Desktop Software if it is running on your PC.
    3. Disconnect your BlackBerry Device from your PC. You'll be prompted to reconnect it with the USB cable.
    4. Go to DST Patch Loader. Note: If Internet Explorer or your Device stops responding please view KB12188.
    5. A reset may be required and it will usually take up to 15-20 minutes.
    6. Once the patch is applied you can view the status of the patch in Options-2007 DST Patch.

References and Fixes
PacketDrivers has been working towards updating our managed clients for months now, and these fixes should not be necessary. They are included here for the benefit of non managed clients and home users. The updates were made simple and comprehensive through the use of our ManageIT system.

Outlook Calendars
- Microsoft has a tool to walk you through using the calendar update tool. It may be complicated for some users. The version as of 3/9/2007 will try to change correct appointments as well as incorrect ones, therefor this tool should be used carefully. Our recommendation is to perform your calendar updates manually, or only run the tool against your recurring appointments.

Click here to use the tool.

PacketDrivers has already used this tool for most clients, and it is not suggested to run it again before March 11. If you have a large number of appointments and would like help updating them after March 11th, you can use the utility.

Windows XP/2003 - If you find that you are not on the correct time or you fail the DST test at the top of this webpage, go to http://update.microsoft.com and get your computer up to date. You may try a reboot of your computer as well. Finally, make sure that you are in the correct time zone, and that you have the checkbox to enable automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time.

Windows 2000 - You can download this registry file (tzup.reg) from Microsoft to your computer, right click and select Merge. Approve the registry entry when you are prompted. This will update your computer for DST 2007. Reboot.

Windows NT - You can download this registry file (tzupNT.reg) from Microsoft to your computer, right click and select Merge. Approve the registry entry when you are prompted. This will update your computer for DST 2007. Reboot.
