Disabling Windows XP SP2

Your organization may not be ready for Windows XP SP2 yet or you are experiencing problems after automatically downloading Windows XP SP2

  1. First see if you can get your work done by disabling the firewall and popup blocker.

  2. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Click on Windows Firewall. And select the Off option.

  3. Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools, Pop-up Blocker, and click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker

  4. If this does not help Remove Windows XP SP2 by going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, and selecting Windows XP Service Pack 2. This will remove SP2

  5. To prevent automatically downloading SP2 download until your software vendors can adjust to SP2 Click on this Link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=33518

  6. Once you click on the link, please select ‘Open’ in the pop up dialog. You will then be asked if you want to accept the End-User License Agreement. After you select ‘Yes,’ you should see a new window briefly open and close on your computer
