Sr. Systems Engineer

Description

PacketDrivers IT Outsourcing is a growing IT Outsourcing organization servicing clients with 20 – 200 PC’s and servers.   Our sole business is IT Outsourcing services and as such we become the trusted technology advisor for these organizations.  We gain this trust by providing high quality, measurable results that maximize the value of their technology investment, while serving as a single point of accountability.

We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to provide services to our growing base of clients along with Sr. Technical leadership to the rest of the Engineer staff.  The position does not require direct supervisory responsibilities.  This is a fulltime position that offers an opportunity to play a key role in the success of a growing company, a competitive compensation and benefits package, and a progressive work environment.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position require the Sr. Systems Engineer to provide a variety of technology services to our clients as well as supporting the other Support and Systems Engineers on level II requests, network upgrades and deployments. The qualified candidate will rely on excellent problem solving, communication, and business skills to provide technology solutions for our clients and fellow team members.  This position is the top technical position in the organization and sets technical direction along with these day to day responsibilities:

  • Meet with clients to evaluate, recommend, and implement technology solutions that are responsive to client needs and that align IT work plans and initiatives with business objectives; provide insight into technology trends
  • Assist clients with technology planning and decision making processes; provide cost/benefit analyses, as needed; coordinate IT product and service procurements; manage order fulfillment process
  • Develop and maintain hardware, software, and network inventory, diagrams and related documentation
  • Develop and maintain security policies and disaster recovery plans; perform security reviews and audits as needed; monitor systems usage and forecast future capacity requirements
  • Provide scheduled, routine visits to support end-users, maintain infrastructure, complete work requests and provide additional support to the assigned Support Engineer; provide unplanned remote and onsite support.  Work with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Help Desk Support Center to resolve escalated end-user and network related requests
  •  Install, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware for desktops, peripherals, laptops, mobile devices, networks, and servers; manage monthly patch and upgrade process for workstations, servers, operating systems, and major applications
  • Maintain close contact and open communication with clients until an issue has been resolved; maintain detailed work logs and technical documentation
  • Recognize and identify areas where existing technology policies and procedures may need to change, or where new ones need to be developed

Technical Qualifications

The successful candidate will also possess a solid technical foundation and real world experience in a majority of the following technical areas:

  • Practical and extensive experience installing, configuring and maintaining all aspects of  Windows Server 2003-based networks, including Active Directory, DNS, IIS, and other server related services.
  • Experience configuring Active Directory Group Policy management.
  • Experience with Backup programs such as Symantec Backup Exec.
  • Experience working with major server manufactures (IBM, HP/Compaq, and Dell etc.) including RAID configuration, firmware upgrades, server administrator utilities and working with the support infrastructure of these manufacturers.
  • Experience installing and configuring Sonicwall and/or Watchguard firewalls
  • Experience supporting VPN tunnels and multi-office WAN infrastructures
  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing multiple versions of Microsoft Exchange
  • Ability to plan and manage the installation, configuration, and upgrade of most office software applications and suites
  • Experience supporting Windows 2000/XP client operating systems
  • Ability to provide technical support and problem resolution for unfamiliar software and hardware
  • Familiarity with industry best practices

The following experience and/or knowledge are also desirable:

  • Terminal services, thin-client architectures, Cisco and other industry network equipment
  • Project Management

Experience

5-8 years demonstrated experience supporting required server and network technologies (demonstrated experience does not include end user support or other technology experience not directly related to the requirements.)  MCSA, MSCE, or equivalent certification a plus.

Location

Onsite at the PacketDrivers offices in Seattle, WA; offsite at client locations throughout the Puget Sound region.

Compensation

Annual base compensation based on experience.  Competitive benefits package include 3-weeks earned flex time after one year; fully-paid medical; company-matched individual retirement savings account and additional benefits such as home internet access, smart phone and company provided laptop.
